Roger Williams of Philadelphia was the first person to publish Reading Matter for the organization. After a lapse of many years, the next publication was in 1939. Then silence came until 1945 when printing of a National Paper was re-introduced and called "The Doorkeeper".
Its primary purpose is publish on a quarterly basis and disseminate information with reference to the Art of Church Ushering and to keep each state informed of the activities of their sister states.
At the 86th National Convention held in Baltimore, Md in July 2005 the Doorkeeper was renamed the "Helen B. Hornbuckle Doorkeeper" in her honor.
