NUCUAA DEPARTMENTS FROM 1919 - 2010

In 1919, Usher Elijah Hamilton founded the National United Church Ushers Association of America, Inc.  Since the founding of our organization, our world has changed dramatically.  We will always be grateful to Bro. Hamilton for his wisdom and foresight in establishing various departments at our first convention which helped to build today's organization.  The First Departments of our organization were:  Embroidery/Arts and Crafts, Ind. & Domestic Science, Civic, Printing, Education, Social Service, Anti-Lynching, Music, Prohibition, Historian, Business, and National Organizer.  Along with these departments several committees were established.  These Committees were:  Committee on Nominations, Committee on Organization, and the Committee on Credentials.

As Society changed, our organization embraced the changes by organizing the following Departmets: Alumni, Henry Ballard Music, A. W. Briggs Health Unit, Jessie Burnett Arts and Crafts, William H. Davis Honor Club, George T. Grier School of Usheing, Helen B. Hornbuckle Doorkeeper, Allan A. C. Griffith Education, Historical, Alma C. Hawkins Public Relation, Leroy Johnson Building Fund, Junior and Young People, Young Adult, Willie J. Minnifield Training and Development, Outreach, Past National Officers, President Council, and the R. E. Harshaw Foundation.  Just as in the beginning, we have established various Committees in our organization and they are:  Bylaws, Election, Memorial, Resolutions, Credentials, Nominating and Monitors.

We believe that our organization has something to offer each of our members (from the Junior, Young Adult, and Senior age ranges).  It is through our past and present leaders of these Departments and Committees that have enabled us to become one of the Greatest Lay Organizations of the Twenty-First Century. Therefore, we invite you to take a look at our Departments and Committees as you browse through our site.
