essie A. Burnett Arts & Crafts

The Arts and Crafts  department was introduced to the National body in 1919 by President Hamilton. The first chairperson, Ira Robinson of New York  recognized that many ushers created beautiful objects of art in their spare time.  Ushers in this department compete in needlework and handicraft contests at the National Convention. There is a National project interpreted by each state chairperson.

The department was renamed after Jessie A. Burnett who loved beauty and art.  For twenty-one years, she served the National Organization as Recording Secretary.
